Since 1980, Suzanne McKevitt has designed and created over 350 residential, commercial, and public gardens. With an education and training rooted in ecology and field botany, she approaches her practice from a unique perspective—each new project begins with an analysis of what will thrive in that particular environment. From there, she considers the site’s topography, architecture, and surroundings, and then, most importantly, she asks her clients how they intend to use the garden—for recreation and play, for entertaining, or strictly for viewing? Known for her eco-friendly and sustainable “green” gardens, featuring drought-tolerant, low-maintenance native and Mediterranean plant species, she is equally at home designing English-style perennial gardens, gardens featuring native wildflowers, vegetables, and herbs as well as more contemporary, minimalist gardens.
